Several representative council members of the National Youth Council (NYC) have distanced themselves from Calista Schwartz-Gowases’ suspension, stating that it is an administration-related matter.
According to the members, they were unsuccessful in their efforts to obtain intervention from the line ministry.
Gowases was suspended by the NYC Board on Monday, citing allegations of misconduct and for disciplinary action to be taken.
According to Veparura Kandirikirira, a representative council member, NYC’s board is empowered to suspend senior officials who are accused of misconduct or maladministration.
Kandirikirira, who is National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) says he and over 70 other fellow members will hold the board accountable once the investigation concludes.
