The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) youth leader, Duminga Ndala, said the youth must engage in political processes to participate in decision-making.

Ndala said the first step for the youth is to register to vote and have the opportunity to influence political decisions.

“I think this will provide young people an opportunity to feel included in political decision-making because for so long they have complained that they have been excluded from political decision, from political processes, so registering to vote is one of the ways that they can be included in that process, “said Ndala.

The Namibia National Students Organisation’s (Nanso) President, Dorthea Nangolo, said in the past few years, the youth have been vocal about the changes they want. Nangolo added that the youth can only achieve this if they register and vote.

“As young people, we have been very vocal over the past few years about what we want from government, about what we want our country to look like… young people in this country want to be empowered to get the opportunities and to be represented at government level. We can only hold government accountable to ensure that this is a place where we participate in democratic processes.

So really, I think mine is just to encourage everybody to go out and register to vote, we have less than eight days left until the registration due date, and please, please, please make a plan at the nearest registration point, it literally takes less than seven minutes, and you are done, “stated Nangolo.

The general registration of voters will end in 8 days on the 1st of August this year.
