The Electricity Control Board has announced an 8% increase in the 2024/2025 NamPower bulk electricity tariffs, which is inclusive of both generations and transmission.

The increase is applicable to NamPower bulk customers, such as Regional Electricity Distributors, Local Authorities, Regional Councils and mines. The bulk customers are required by law to apply to the ECB for a review of their distribution tariffs, which when approved will then be applicable to end consumers.

While announcing the increases for utilities who applied before the end of May 2024 and were approved, the ECB’s Executive for Technical Regulation, Petrus Johannes said the ECB withheld the applications for NORED and the City of Windhoek due to non-compliance with set conditions.

“The following two distributors also submitted their application before the end of May 2024 for their tariff increase. However, their schedules of approved tariff will be withheld by the ECB until they comply with the ECB condition. These two licensees are Nored that have applied for 7.7% and the approval granted is 6.6%. The second distribution licensee is City of Windhoek that applied for 10.4% and the approval granted is 7.9%,”Johannes stated.

Meanwhile, Johannes revealed the new tariffs for utilities that applied for tariff increases for both pre and post-paid electricity. “The first licensee is NamPower Distribution, they have applied for 6.4%, the approval granted by ECB is 6%, while CENORED applied for 7.5%, and the approval granted is 6%. CENORED Okahandja applied for 7.1%, the approval granted is 6.2%, while CENORED Omaheke applied for 1.5%, and the approval granted is 1.5%.

ERONGO RED applied for 7.3%, the approval granted is 6.6% while Keetmanshoop Electricity Business Unit applied for 7.1%, and the approval granted is 6.4%. Oshakati Premier Electric applied for 7%, the approval granted is 6%,” Johannes announced. The approved tariffs are effective as of the 1st of July 2024.
