Swanu president Evilastus Kaaronda has criticised the current system of old age pension payment, labelling it an insult to senior citizens. Kaaronda calls for a fixed payday rather than being paid on the first Tuesday of every month.

Kaaronda made the remarks during a media conference today where he touched on a number of issues affecting the Namibian people, highlighting the difficulties faced by pensioners in rural areas who rely on radio announcements for payment dates. He emphasised that the absence of a fixed payday disrupts the management of pensioners’ lives.

“As it is currently, it creates a lot of uncertainty and the pensioners do not know when to go and receive their money. It requires a bit of administrative reorganisation on the part of government and whoever has the tender to deal with the disbursements of the money,” stated Kaaronda.
