The Security Association of Namibia (SAN) says that the ongoing national strike, where over 300 security guards gathered at the Katutura Youth Complex in Windhoek this week, is illegal.

The association, alongside the Namibia Transport and Allied Worker’s Union (NATAU), is currently discussing the N$15 per hour rate demanded by the guards.

SAN’s president Dhiginina Uutaapama said the guards must follow the right procedures by approaching the Ministry of Labour to address their grievances.

Security guards in Windhoek stated that they currently receive less than N$10 per hour. The Namibia Security Workers’ Union (NASWU), under the leadership of Michael Amushelelo, is spearheading the strike.
