Local economist Omu Kakujaha Matundu stated that South Africa is not to blame for Namibia’s unfavourable trade positions as a member of the Southern African Customs Unions (SACU), but rather the negotiators who failed to prioritise Namibia’s interests against the major economy in the region. This comes after President Hage Geingob this week bemoaned the current SACU agreement as it discourages investors from coming to Namibia and hinders local industrialisation.
