The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) is taking its deregistration case to the High Court, after losing at the electoral court today.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) deregistered NEFF in June of this year after the party failed to submit audited financial reports.

NEFF vice president, Iipumbu Kalimbo said the electoral court judgment focused on determining the case’s jurisdiction.

He highlighted that the populace should understand that today’s judgment was never to look at the case of the EFF against the ECN but was on the jurisdiction of the case, whether the Electoral Court of Namibia can adjudicate on the NEFF case and whether the ECN have jurisdiction over the case.

“This is actually a judgment and it is not to say the case is dismissed but the case is still there. Today we are going to file this matter in the High Court so that this matter can be heard and we can listen to the merits of what ECN has presented,” said Kalimbo.

He clarified that it was not about complying, but it was about timing as they could not force their auditor to do their job just because ECN was asking for the financial report.

“Imagine even the auditors themselves wrote to the ECN to say,  colleagues, we are having the books of the NEFF, bear with us, we still need time to look into their books, and then we will give you the report as requested, ” fumed Kalimbo.
