Namibia registered 389 wildlife crime cases from January to December 2023, Of these cases 96 were finalised.   This is according to the Wildlife Protection and Law Enforcement National Report for 2023.  

The report launched by environmental and law enforcement stakeholders in Windhoek today indicates that surging syndicate activities require more intricate, costly and time-consuming investigations.  

Additionally, the Prosecutor General, Advocate Martha Imalwa, said her office created the Environmental Crime Unit (ECU), and tasked them to not only focus on arrests but also on ensuring that no perpetrator gets the opportunity to benefit from wildlife crime.

Imalwa said all assets acquired by perpetrators through wildlife crime will be seized.
