Republican Party of Namibia leader Henk Mudge says the opposition should have united and instituted legal action against the electoral commission. The electoral commission awarded an N$6 million tender for designing, printing, packaging, and distributing the 2024 election ballots to the South African company Ren-Form.

Opposition parties have raised concerns against the electoral commission’s awarding a ballot printing tender to Ren-Form. Although some parties were unhappy, they sent representatives to monitor the process in South Africa.

“What should have happened was that the opposition should have got together and, institute legal action as a group of opposition parties,” stated Mudge.

He explained that it would not be sensible for every political party to initiate legal action, but support each other.

“I made contact with some of the other leaders, and I said to them that we will not institute legal action, but we will support theirs. So, if they are going to institute that, we will become involved, and we will support it in whichever way necessary. We cannot allow this to happen,” said Mudge.

PDM leader McHenry Venaani said they are considering appealing the awarding of the tender to Ren-Form.

“We are going to appeal to the appeal board to tell them that this company has no credibility to run an election. We could lose the case. We might win the case, but our problem is genuine. It’s based on defending our democracy, and we will defend it with whatever we have, whenever we can, all the time. We remain resolute in action,” stated Venaani.

He added: We see no value in continuing with this company because according to us, they are just a fraud. If they are being used, then it is already an indication that this election is going to be a fraud because why do you want to bring a company that is accused of corruption and you are bringing it on board?
