The International University of Management (IUM) has launched the GoFundMe project, initiated by the Student Representative Council (SRC) to help students with financial difficulties.

The project, themed “Empowering Futures: Bridging the Education Gap,” aims to raise N$1 million to support not only IUM students who are facing financial challenges, but also those who wish to study at IUM in the future but cannot do so due to financial constraints.

Speaking at the official project launch at the university’s main campus in Windhoek recently, IUM’s SRC president, Loide Nghuulondo, stated that the initiative aims to establish a transparent scholarship committee to review applications and ensure the fair distribution of funds.

She added that the council aims to collaborate with educational institutions, community organisations, and high schools to identify deserving students with financial constraints who wish to study at IUM.

“This campaign is to source financial assistance for students facing economic challenges, helping them cover tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation and other essential expenses related to higher education. Our aim is to create a level playing field enabling talented and motivated individuals to pursue their academic goals regardless of their financial background,” remarked Nghuulondo.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation, Professor Charles Makanyeza, who officially launched the GoFundMe project, highlighted its significance for IUM students and its support for the government’s educational efforts in Namibia.

The project includes a competition for the public to win an iPhone 15 Pro Max and many more prices.

The event concluded with pledges of N$30 000 from the SRC office, significant contributions from management and marketing staff, the Dean of Students, the Student Christian Movement, the Vice Chancellor, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor. The David Namwandi Trust also donated N$32 000.
