Out of 1713 schools in the country, only 164 have functional libraries, and just 47 employed professional librarians.

This was revealed by the Director of Namibia Library and Archives Service (NLAS), Sarah Negumbo, during an advocacy and information-sharing event on Wednesday held under the theme “Enhancing Learners Performance through the Utilisation of School Libraries in Namibia”.

Negumbo called for collaborative efforts to address the shortage of functional school libraries, ensuring that every Namibian child has access to library resources and services.
