Affirmative Repositioning (AR) Activist in Chief, Dr. Job Amupanda, says the movement will continue to fight for people to use identity documents to vote.

Amupanda told the media today that people are subject to a tedious registration process for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in November.

Associate Professor Amupanda said the voting age must be reduced from 18 to 16 years, as defined by several laws as the age of consent. He pointed out that ID cards are issued at this age, among other rights.

“There is actually a functionality in those devices to be able to scan somebody’s ID.  So, if you can scan my ID for  the purposes of registration, why can’t you  scan it for the purpose of voting? So, we don’t believe that we must embark in this problematic, particularly for presidential and national assembly elections. We don’t believe that we should actually be embarking on this expensive exercise of registration,” remarked Amupanda.

He added: We equally believe that the voting age must be reduced from 18 to 16. These are all part of the reform that we think must be done. And we are anyway responding to those who are very critical of what we are proposing… several laws in our country say that this is the age of consent. It is at this age, anyway that the IDs (is issued). So, at 16, you give these young people an ID. With an ID, you can do many things,” said Amupanda.

Amupanda appealed to people to support the AR financially because the movement does not receive any funding from parliament, foreign sources, or corruption.

“The AR does not receive any money from any defined or institutional established sources. Those of you who wish to see corruption fought and ended, those of you who aspire for a leadership of the future and not the leadership of the past, and those of you who care for our country, please do make a financial contribution to the AR movement so that we are able to take our campaign and message of our country, our future, our time, to the masses of our people. You don’t have to be rich,” stated Amupanda.
