A murder case was brought before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday involving a 22-year-old man charged with killing his girlfriend earlier this week.

The suspect, Tjiake Murangi, appeared in absentia as he is still admitted to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, where he is recovering after sustaining an injury to his throat. It is yet unclear how Murangi sustained the injury.

According to the Khomas regional crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo, the matter has been postponed to 25 April this year.

When asked about Murangi’s condition, which was described as critical earlier, Mubebo responded: “He is recovering. He can speak a word or two, but is struggling. There is an improvement. He speaks but his voice is fading”.

Mubebo further added, “This morning, when he received visitors, he asked what happened to the girl”.

According to a police report issued this week, Murangi stabbed his girlfriend Frieda Amadhila (29) with a knife during a fight early Monday morning, after which she succumbed to her injuries. This incident happened at a flat near Windhoek’s Maerua Mall. Subsequently, the neighbours called the Police and reported a case of domestic violence.

Upon arrival, the police found the flat locked and were informed the suspect had driven off. According to nurses at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, Murangi parked his vehicle at the emergency entrance and informed the nurses that that were was someone in the car who needed urgent attention.

Amadhila was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while Murangi was admitted due to his throat injury.
